European Parliament Action on Access to EU Documents


European Parliament votes in favour of legal action over the "Solana Decision"
At is meeting today (13.9.00) the Legal Affairs and Internal Market Committee of the European Parliament voted in favour of an opinion to appeal to the Court of Justice against the "Solana/NATO Decision" of 26 July.
The initiative was passed by 13 votes to 10. The Socialist Group (PSE) voted against.
The opinion agreed is addressed to the President of the European Parliament, Madame Fontaine who will take the final decision on the issue.

Final decision
On 19.10.2000, the European Parliament decided to take Council to European Court of Justice for limiting the rights of EU citizens on access to documents. The decision was taken by a majority of the leaders of the political groups (in the so-called Conference of Presidents).
