In the context of the preparations for the "International Einstein Year 2005"
a project group of BITS and INES is developing programme outlines for showing the
"Citizen Einstein" in his commitment to peace, disarmament and human rights.
Among other issues, the purpose is to illustrate the relevance of his ideas and his works
for todays times and place them in the context of current affairs and debates.
Task Force 19 + 1 examines NATO-Russia relations and their significance for the future
of European security. The project promotes strong cooperative and collective security
arrangements in Europe.
The Project on European Nuclear Non-proliferation (PENN) monitors political processes
which influence nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament in Europe. PENN seeks to support
progress in European nuclear disarmament and urges the EU to sign the NPT as a non-nuclear
weapons state.
The Project on Promoting Asian-European Dialogue supports civil society organizations
in both regions in devising new political strategies for economic and social development.
In the security field the project focuses on disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation
issues.
The Arms Trade and Small Arms Project researches arms trade issues and explores options
for arms control and disarmament.
The Actiongroup Landmine.de is located at BITS. Building on the research
that BITS conducted between 1993 and 1997 for German NGOs and the International Campaign
to Ban Landmines. The Actiongroup Landmine.de calls for a ban on all landmines and cluster
munitions and a sustainable support of all victims of these weapon. In 1997 the
International Campaign to Ban Landmines was awarded the Peace Nobel Prize
